DILLI MERI JAAN

Amongst the zillions of writings about you
My words are simple, small but true
I pour my heart out to thee
My city, my Jaan, my Dilli!

I wonder where I shall begin
Temples or bazaars, who will win?
Food, aah there, in the gully
My city, my Jaan, my Dilli!

Delhi Deities live within me
Bangla Sahib’s Halwa, Hanuman Mandir’s Boondi
Nizamuddin Dargah’s Qawwali
My city, my Jaan, my Dilli!

Trousseau, jewels, gold and pearl
Brides charmed, in bright lehngas, they twirl
Karol Bagh, Chandni Chowk or Sarojini
My city, my Jaan, my Dilli!

Every nook and corner hold foodie’s delight
Sweet and spicy delicacies always in sight
Chaat, paratha, kulfi, jalebi
My city, my Jaan, my Dilli!

Yes, you have changed quite a bit
Your soul but you did not submit
With every breath, I miss you terribly
My city, my Jaan, my Dilli!
